Our veterinarians are trained to perform a variety of surgical procedures on animals. The following are just some of the operations we perform:
Cesarean Section
A cesarean section is major surgery to remove kittens from the uterus of the mother cat. Most cats recover quickly from this procedure; however, if your cat was in labor for several hours before surgery was performed, her recovery will be slower and she will need extra attention and help with her litter.
Emergency Operations
Unfortunately, pet emergencies happen, and sometimes surgical intervention is required to save your Cat. In life-threatening situations such as trauma (hit by car, fall, attacked by another animal), foreign body obstruction, or gastric dilatation-volvulus (bloat) surgery can mean the difference between life and death. Our highly trained board-certified veterinary surgeons are at the ready when surgery is required.
Foreign Object Removal
A minimally invasive procedure to remove items that have been swallowed and become stuck in the digestive tract. If an object becomes lodged in the airway and obstructs breathing, emergency medical attention is required.
Orthopedic Surgery
Orthopedic (bone) surgery is a commonly performed procedure in cats that have experienced medical conditions like broken legs or broken jaws due to trauma, neoplasia (abnormal cell growth/cancer), or even infectious disease.
Spay
In a female animal, spaying consists of removing the ovaries and uterus. The technical term is ovariectomy or ovariohysterectomy.
Neuter
Neuter usually refers to the action of removing the sex organs usually testes from a male animal.
Tumor Removal
Removing a tumor is a common type of cancer surgery. The doctor usually takes out the tumor and some of the healthy tissue near it. Tumor removal generally requires a larger incision, or cut, than a biopsy.
GI Foreign Body
A gastrointestinal foreign body is something swallowed that is unable to pass normally out of the ‘gastrointestinal tract’ (which includes the stomach and intestines). Cats are naturally curious and playful and often play with small items that they could swallow accidentally.
Amputation
An amputation is a surgical procedure where a pet’s limb is removed. An amputation may be performed due to a variety of reasons which may include a cancer diagnosis, severe trauma, fractures, infections, or chronic pain.
Enucleation
Enucleation is the surgical removal of the entire eyeball leaving behind the lining of the eyelids and muscles of the eye.
