CARE FOR YOUR BIRD

In this section of birds we have different kinds of Passerines, Canaries, Psittacines, Budgerigars, Cockatiels, Love birds, Macaw and many more. Birds are becoming popular over dogs and cats as they are more suited for small spaces, have low maintenance requirements, relatively low cost of maintenance and live longer lives. We can take care of them by-

WELLNESS

  • Cage and environment– Providing a spacious and secure cage with appropriate perches, toys,  and enrichment activities is important for the well-being of your bird. The cage should be located in a quiet area away from drafts and direct sunlight.
  • Hygiene– Clean the cage and accessories regularly, and provide a shallow dish of water for bathing. Regularly change the bird’s food and water bowls to prevent the growth of bacteria and mold.
  • Socialization– Providing regular interaction and socialization with your bird can help prevent boredom and promote mental and physical well-being.
  • Exercise– Providing opportunities for your bird to exercise, such as by providing a bird-safe play area or encouraging flight within a safe indoor environment.
  • Provide a spacious and secure enclosure– Exotic and wild birds need plenty of space to move around and fly. Ensure that their enclosure is large enough and has adequate perches, toys, and hiding places.
  • Offer a balanced diet– Research the specific needs of the species you are caring for and provide a variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, and high-quality pellets, as well as a source of clean water.
  • Provide mental and physical stimulation– Offer a variety of toys and activities to keep them occupied and engaged.
  • Veterinary care– It is important to establish a relationship with a qualified avian veterinarian and seek regular check-ups.

VACCINATION

  • In general, vaccines are used to prevent viral or bacterial infections in birds. Common vaccines used in avian medicine include those for avian influenza, Newcastle disease, and infectious bronchitis. Vaccination can be particularly important for birds that are kept in large groups or in environments where they are exposed to other birds.
  • The type and timing of vaccinations will depend on the species of bird, its age, and its exposure to disease. It is important to consult with an avian veterinarian who can provide specific guidance on vaccination protocols for your bird.
  • Vaccines for Fowl Cholera, Newcastle disease, Ranikhet disease, Gumboro disease are also available.
  • Vaccination of exotic and wild birds is an important aspect of their health care, but should be discussed with a qualified avian veterinarian who can provide guidance on the specific needs  of your bird.

SURGERY

  • Caponisation

Caponisation is the process of turning a cockerel into a capon. Caponisation can be done by surgically removing the bird’s testes, or may also be accomplished through the use of estrogen implants. With either method, the male sex hormones normally present are no longer effective.

  • Debeaking

Debeaking is the practice of taking off part of the upper beak of a bird. This removes the part they pinch and tear flesh with, making it extremely difficult for them to be cannibalistic.

  • Crop Impaction

Crop impaction occurs when the stored material cannot be propelled forward into the esophagus. Crop impaction normally develops when a group of fibers get tangled together into a mass that is too big to pass from the crop to the esophagus.

  • BumbleFoot

Bumblefoot is a general term for any inflammatory or degenerative condition of the avian foot, and may range from a very mild redness or abrasion to chronic, deep-seated abscesses. Bumblefoot is found on the plantar aspect of a bird’s feet where it can form an abscess.

  • Tumor & Cysts

A tumor is a solid mass of tissue and, depending on the type of tumor, it may grow very quickly and spread. A tumor can occur anywhere on the body, and may protrude from the skin, under the skin, or grow inside the body.

  • Dubbing

Dubbing is the procedure of removing the comb, wattles and sometimes earlobes of poultry.

  • Egg Bound

Egg binding occurs when the female bird is unable to expel an egg from her body. While most female birds have no problems laying eggs, occasionally they may encounter difficulty.

  • Fracture

Fractured bones in birds heal faster than in humans or other animals. Usually a stiff splint, which totally immobilizes the broken bone, is the only treatment needed. During multiple (complicated) fractures, surgery may be needed to implant supports. This helps the bone function normally after it has healed.

BIRD TAMING

  • If someone tames a wild bird or animal, they train it not to be afraid of humans and to do what they say.
  • Your bird will probably need about two weeks to adjust to his new environment before you can begin taming him. Some birds will take longer, and some will need less time to acclimate. Place your bird’s cage in a busy room. Intuitively, a quiet room may seem ideal.
  • In most species of pet birds, both parents are actively involved in incubation, feeding, and caring for the chicks. Breeding birds and rearing chicks is best undertaken by an experienced bird owner. Most individual pet birds will not breed successfully in captivity.
  • As your bird begins to trust you more and more he will sit comfortably on your finger, hand or shoulder in preference to almost anywhere else and will want to play with you.
  • At this time extend the areas of touch from the top of his head to the back of the neck, to the face, under the wings, down the back and then the feet.
  • Repeatedly handling and fondling builds up an attachment which then allows you to teach him tricks and so on.

As per the mentioned procedures, a bird can be tamed. but for a regular person it is a very complicated process to follow. So here we come with a solution.

In our clinic you can find a professional bird trainer for your beloved feathered friend. The trainer will help you completely with the taming process. so within a matter of a few days you will see your pet bird’s transformation from a naughty child to a loving companion.
